COLLEEN ROSS
Owner/Studio Director

Miss Colleen is the owner and studio director of The Dance Workshop. She is a Registered Teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance having completed the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies Program in 2014. Colleen is a certified Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers (A.D.A.P.T) Jazz and Tap instructor. Colleen studied dance kinesiology and injury prevention at while at York University and as such knows the importance of safe dance practice. As a studio owner Colleen recognizes the need for qualified adult instructors in all classes. All students in our young dancer classes for student’s ages 22 months to 4 years are taught by Colleen or Miss Laura. In addition to her dance certifications Colleen has taken the Principles of Healthy Child Development Course with High Five and holds her CPR and First Aid certifications. Colleen is a Registered Social Worker and graduated from York University with Honours in 2008. Before teaching at The Dance Workshop, Colleen taught at studios in Stayner and Barrie, Ontario Colleen also worked as a support worker with adults with developmental disabilities for over ten years.

Colleen believes that with ambition and hard work her students are capable of anything. She is known for her kind demeanor and patience. She believes in positive reinforcement, giving constructive corrections and celebrating her student’s successes. Owning a dance studio was Colleen’s childhood dream and she is forever grateful that it is a reality.

JENNIFER WIKEN
Director of Competitive Program/Instructor

Miss Jennifer is an Ontario Certified teacher with the Simcoe County District School Board. Having earned a teaching specialization in the dramatic arts as well as in dance, Jennifer brings with her not only knowledge of the performing arts but of effective teaching instruction. Jennifer has also earned her teaching certificate in Jazz and Tap with the ADAPT Teachers Training Program and is proud to be a YPAD (youth protection advocate in dance) certified member. Before becoming a teacher, Jennifer worked and trained as a principal dancer for a hip hop and dance theatre-based company for 5 years. Jennifer has won awards for her choreography each season she has entered students into competitions and for a variety of styles including production, hip hop, jazz, musical theatre and modern. Miss Jennifer continues to seek out opportunities to expand her knowledge by working with and learning from industry professionals. Miss Jennifer is proud to be the Director of Competition at the Dance Workshop and to continue to have the opportunity to choreograph and train dancers in her hometown.

SUSAN QUESNEL

Miss Sue has been an active member of the dance community in Alliston for over 20 years. She was the founder of the dance studio DanceMania which began in 1998. She provides her students with a vast knowledge of technique, terminology and etiquette in many genres of dance including tap, jazz, ballet, acro and hip hop. She is an Associate Member of the Canadian Dance Teacher's (CDTA) Stage Division (Tap and Jazz). She is also an Associate Member, CDTA Ballet Division and Associate Member Modern Division. Her other credentials include BATD Stage Division (Tap and Jazz). Miss Sue has made dance her passion for over 30 years. She began her journey as a baton twirler with the Woodview majorettes under the direction of Joan Hicks. Her tap and jazz training began with the Janice Lynn School of Dance under the direction of Miss Janice Lynn that lasted 10 years. Miss Sue received her teaching credentials at Ann's Studio of Dance under the direction of Ann Romeril (now past President of CDTA/retired). Dance has been Miss Sue's passion for over 30 years. She has put on numerous recitals, attended numerous competitions and made all of the costumes for her shows. Miss Sue says: "I love teaching dance. Nothing is more gratifying than to watch the students succeed".

LAURA BRAYFORD

Miss Laura has been teaching at The Dance Workshop since 2018. She is also an Ontario Certified teacher with the Simcoe County District School Board. Her experience in the classroom gives her many practical teaching strategies and the understanding of different types of students. Laura has danced in Alliston since the age of 7. She has trained in ballet, hip hop, jazz, tap and modern. She has danced competitively and completed various Royal Academy of Dance ballet exams. Miss Laura creates a positive and creative dance environment where students can get involved in their dance education while improving their skills. When she’s not teaching, you might find Miss Laura tutoring or playing with her dog Finn. Miss Laura is very happy to be teaching dance in her hometown of Alliston at The Dance Workshop.

KELLY PHANTHASOMCHIT
Acro/Contemporary Instructor

Kelly Phanthasomchit started training at the age of 9 and was quickly scouted as a member of a successful Toronto competition team. Over the years Ms. Kelly has trained in Jazz, Ballet, Acro, Lyrical, Tap, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre and Gymnastics. She danced competitively and attended workshops and Master Classes throughout Canada and the United States winning various dance scholarships and awards. Ms. Kelly has also had the privilege of performing numerous solos, duets and trios at many competitions, some of which were performed with her younger brother and sister. As a gymnastics coach, Ms. Kelly became fully certified in the Acrobatic Arts Program, and passed onto many students her acrobatic skills. She also choreographed dance pieces that have won many judges choice awards and first place overalls at numerous dance competitions. This in turn has enabled her to teach both dance and acrobatics, her real life passions. Ms.Kelly is very involved in the Toronto commercial dance industry and she has worked at professional dance competition venues as a dance manager, working alongside some prominent dance directors. Along with teaching and working at competitions, Ms. Kelly has found time in her busy schedule to freelance in Advertising. With a diploma in Advertising And Marketing, she has been hired by many in the dance industry for her graphic design work. Ms. Kelly brings her experience, contagious smile, and winning personality to create a fun and creative atmosphere for our students at The Dance Workshop.

SAMANTHA BERTOSSI

Samantha is a Registered Royal Academy of Dance Teacher (R.A.D), a graduate of the Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers (A.D.A.P.T) and a Certified Progressing Ballet Technique Instructor. She competed in many styles of dance including Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap and studied at Canada’s National Ballet School in the Professional Development Program. Here she deepened her passion for Ballet, learning from teachers like Anuschka Roes, gained knowledge of Benesh Notation with Robyn Ryman and added to her expertise of dance anatomy with Eileen Birks. Samantha is passionate about continuing to learn and develop her skills as a dance educator and believes in instilling a joy of dance with each of her students.

CHRIS EPHGRAVE
Ballroom and Latin Social Dance Instructor

Chris has taken patterns, moves and steps from his extensive and varied dance background which includes teaching at Arthur Murray’s Dance Studio, Fred Astaire Dance Studio, Wm. G. Pollock and the World of Dance Studio, and incorporated them into a Social dance schedule aimed at introducing mainly newcomers to the enjoyable and exciting aspects of both Ballroom and Latin dancing. He guarantees positive results based upon each participant’s level of involvement, with new steps introduced at a relaxed pace for everyone’s pleasure. His sense of humour makes learning Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Jive/Swing, Hustle, and even Cha-Cha, and Rumba, an excellent and stimulating exercise.
